Tow Timing Was Off
Goodwill was great to work withโflexible with my schedule and clear about the whole process. The rep explained everything thoroughly and followed through as promised. Iโm taking off one star because the towing company didnโt stick to the agreed time. Goodwill told me the pickup would be between 9 and 1, but the tow company first said 8:00โ8:30, then actually showed up at 6:15 AM. Luckily, I was home and able to point them to the car.
Towing Service Needs Improvement
Goodwill made donating my car easy. They answered all my questions and were helpful throughout the process. However, the towing service they used wasnโt as smooth. I had told them in advance the car needed a jump, but the driver showed up without a charger. While trying to load the car, some damage was done to the bumper, and the whole process took a lot longer than it should have. The driver was clearly in a rush afterward and ended up leaving without giving me a receipt.
Smooth and Reliable Process
The process was smooth and well-organized. After reaching out, we quickly got clear instructions and a follow-up call. Once our paperwork was ready, a tow truck company contacted us and scheduled pickup for the next day. The driver kept in touch until they arrived. Very professional from start to finish.
False Advertising
They claim to fix donated cars and give them to people in need, but thatโs not what they actually do. When I called to ask how to apply for a car, I was told they donโt give cars away anymore. Instead, they sell the cars at auction and say the money goes toward job trainingโwhich I could get for free through the unemployment office. The issue isnโt job trainingโI already have a job. I just need a way to get there, which I thought was the whole purpose of their program. Feels misleading and pointless. It comes off more like a scheme than real help.
Poor Timing and Lack of Communication
The main issue was the timing of the car pick-up. I was told Iโd get a call on the selected day with a 1-hour window between 6 AM and 3 PM. After waiting at home for 7.5 hours, I finally got a call at 1:30 PM saying the tow truck would arrive in 30 minutes. There was no 1-hour window or even a 1-hour notice. It completely messed up my plans for the day.
Frustrating Pickup Experience
The first pickup attempt didnโt go as plannedโthe company never actually scheduled it, so I ended up waiting around all day for nothing. After I followed up, they assured me the pickup would definitely happen the next day and gave me a window between 6 AM and 3 PM. Well, they didnโt show up until 4:30 PM. To be fair, they did call right at 3 to let me know they were running late, which I appreciated, but the whole experience was still pretty frustrating.
Where Is My Donation Receipt?
I donated but never received a receipt, which I need for my 2024 taxes. I've reached out and spoken to someone a few times now, but nothing has come of it. It's already April 2025, and Iโm still waiting. I really need a paper copy sent to my home addressโthis is getting frustrating.
Mismanagement of Donation Process
The process was unclear, and the people on the phone had no idea what the towing company was doing. I didnโt receive a donation receipt for several days after making the donation. Then, I received a call trying to convince me that it was my fault the experience didnโt meet expectations. Afterward, I got a reply to my review claiming I was the confused one. The national call center needs to take responsibility for their poor performance, instead of blaming me for simply trying to make a donation.
